Burning Down the House!

We are burning down the house in June.

We thank all of you for following our blog, making comments, and sharing your knowledge with us.  We have loved our time blogging due to your participation and everyone has been enriched by your sharing.  But, the time has come and we are going to burn down the house. June will be the last month with new posts.

A Little History of the Blog
"And Then We Set It On Fire" started officially in January 2011 although we had a few posts before then to get fired up.  So much has changed and so much has stayed the same.  We have always been about surface design mostly with fabric but sometimes with paper but our presentation format has changed through the years.  We have changed Resident Artists and Administrators but some of us have been here through it all.  We have had famous Guest Artists and Guest Artists like you and me who are famous to our friends and blog readers.  I can't think of a surface design technique that we have not featured at least once  and  many have been presented  by various artists getting different perspective.   Personally I love that!  We started with just 6 people (I think) and have gone international with both our readers and our Guest and Resident Artists.  It has been an explosion!

We have asked all our past Guest and Resident Artists if they would like to have a final post to let you know what they are up to now and to say a final goodbye.  Please, tell us what you are up to now and feel free to tell us goodbye and let us know some of your favorite posts.  As always, we would love to hear from you.

We will  leave the blog up for future reference.  I don't know about you but I often go back to review a technique I haven't used for a bit.  You are welcome to do the same. Thank you again for making this blog such a success.

Judith and Beth

  1. Sorry to hear this; I've enjoyed the various topics over the past few years...but 'to everything there is a season', eh? And I appreciate your leaving the blog in place for future reference! Thank you!

  2. Wow! The end of an era! I have enjoyed and been inspired by all the wonderful artists who have shared their ideas and expertise here but I can imagine how much work goes into each month of blogging. Thank you to every single artist who has taken time out to share their work here and thank you too for allowing the blog to stay as a reference, the information is invaluable, especially to people beginning their surface design journeys as I was when I found the blog.

  6. Thank you to all the artists and bloggers for their useful and fun tips and techniques. I have always loved the blog's title--such a wild and whimsical but accurate description of the group's efforts! Like the others, I am grateful for all your experiments and advice as well as for leaving the blog up so that we can continue to learn. Good luck to all of you in the future!

  7. I am so sad to se the end of such a wonderful blog with so much info and help. I do appreciate all that I have learned here thru the years. The time and effort is extraordinary and just can't be replaced.
I want to thank all who have been involved and shared their knowledge with us. I will truly miss this and so looked forward each month to see what technique would be the topic.
    Thanks you.

  9. This IS sad news. I didn't find the blog until quite a while after it started. I went back and read every post. It has been fantastic fun and will continue to be a resource for all of us. Thank you all for your efforts over the years.

  10. has there ever been a series on linocut stamping to make prints on fabric?
What if one of the subscribers has an adea they'd like to share, is the door to that option totally closed? I have valued and enjoyed and referenced the body of information shared to this venue, but I have had the feeling that the contributor pool was selective and restrictive and there was no opportunity to consider anyone outside the familiar group.

    1. We asked each year for people who would like to be contributors to the blog. We did get a few takers but basically Judith and I searched other blogs looking for artists to invite. The "limited pool" were those who always said yes when asked.

  12. I'm so sorry you're ending this blog but I do understand. Happily you'll leave it available, hopefully long enough for us to all go back and save those "episodes" that we most need.

  14. Yes, I have referenced this blog quite often. I was happily asked to do a week post years ago and enjoyed doing so. Will miss learning new techniques or tips on old techniques. Thanks so much for all the hard work keeping this reference site for us to learn from!
