Scrunch Dyeing in a tray
My turn, I would like to share a piece I made in december. This is the dyeprocess in pictures:
I decided to use this piece for a small project. Ironed fusible web over the full piece, cut a line drawing of sun flowers out of the piece and added it to a sort of 'crazy patch' top, dyed with the same colours.
No rocketscience, not an artquilt, but a lot of fun to do!!
I love this. It makes me smile and what a clever use for snow dyes!!
ReplyDeleteYour fabrics turned out very beautiful and the sunflowers just as well!
ReplyDeleteFabulous piece, Nienke! I love the colors, and I'm really intrigued by your cutout process... thanks for sharing your project!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant piece - would love a workshop in how to make something similar - do you have n online workshop??
ReplyDeletethis quilt is very nice Nienke. Do you want te show it at 8 March?

Wow! We are finally getting some nice weather so I can go out and do some dyeing. I know the place that sells ice will be getting a boost in revenue from me soon!
ReplyDeleteI think it is gorgeous and such a clever way to work with that fabric!
ReplyDeleteAnd just WHY is it not art? Sure looks like it qualifies to me......Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI am new to fabric dyeing and have just recently used a piece in a similar fashion (but reverse applique) the way the colours move through out the piece is fabulous.
It is definitely an art quilt. Beautiful inspiration and execution.
ReplyDeleteNice piece Nienke. I love seeing how you use your fabrics. Did you use an Exacto-knife to cut out your sunflowers. They turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteJust tiny scissors and some patience will do the work ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt. Between the colors and textures in the fabrics and your cut out layers, you've achieved some very nice interesting complex layers.
ReplyDelete...and WHY is this "not an art quilt"? this is very cool!
ReplyDeleteWONDERFUL Nienke. I love it a lot. It is really beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a beautiful piece of art. What a great way to use a piece of your own beautiful hand-dyed fabric.

ReplyDeleteLooks like art to me!! Absolutely gorgeous!! And I commend you on your patience cutting all that with little scissors!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteMakes me wonder what the definition of an "art" quilt is. Is a quilt only art when you use certain techniques or when you use certain products or if it is abstract or if ....
I wonder if you took a poll what people would define an art quilt as.
